About Opie's

Opie’s Candy Store is owned and operated by Carolyn and Freddie Quesinberry. Freddie and Carolyn grew up in Mount Airy and after raising their daughters and retiring from other jobs, they returned to their beloved hometown in 2004. Opie’s wasn’t exactly a planned venture. While walking Main Street on a crisp, autumn day they happened upon a vacant building beside of Floyd’s Barber Shop. “Wouldn’t it be nice to own a business here in our hometown!” exclaimed Carolyn. Not even a minute later, Freddie replied, “How about Opie’s Candy Store? Wouldn’t that be fun?”

The rest is history. After hours of restoring a 100 year old building and researching old candies, Opie’s opened in March of 2005. Freddie and Carolyn are glad they took that walk in autumn a couple of years ago. They meet many, many nice folks daily and enjoy each and every day at the candy store. It’s the simple life they were looking for coupled with some hard work. Come into Opie’s for sweet treats and warm hearts. Freddie and Carolyn are waiting for you!
