This is funny not because of the events detailed, but that the author was so emotional about said events. I mean wake up - it was just a few hackers.
Now back to my game of uplink, where there all the players are hackers!
02.47.31 - Mark
Whoa, talk about addictive. I've been playing uplink (the Ambrosia game I mented yesterday) basicaly since 8 EST, non stop. Now I can't see strait and its a quarter til 3 AM. Whoa...

Best $5 I've ever spent:
Compaq 17" monitor, 15.9" viewable, Millions of colors, 1240x1040, OSD, .28mm Dot pitch, (no speakers). I've got it up and running off a flashed radeon 7000 for the Phoenix and it's almost as nice as the optiquest on the beige G3. Considering I was willing to pay $100 + for a 17" monitor a matter of hours ago this is nice. I may have to go back and grap that other monitor (older but hey, a monitor is a monitor - if it isn't working I still want a Plasma Generator :) )
My only problem is that little compaq logo, I wonder how well the case would look in metalic black...
19.41.20 - Mark
I have found the cure for summer time boredom, good for at least 30 days (in other words, new Ambrosia Software game.)
18.33.31 - Mark
Two days into summer break and I'm already getting bored out of my mind, this isn't good.
18.28.56 - Mark
Why video games are good for you I mean who doesn't want to be able to track visuals better? And as usual, some insane mother needs to come in and say that the games aren't stimulating the mind training it to track visuals better, they're claiming that its training the mind to kill, kill, kill, and do some of those other violent activities. As I've read on a good shirt:
"playing video games as a kid didn't affect us, otherwise we'd be running around in dark rooms eating pills to repetitive music."
(if anyone knows where I can get that t-shirt, please let me know)

I lve the goodwill, not for the smelly welfare dependent customers, or the messy stores, or the rude employees, but the fact that its the only place that sells perfectly good computer parts for about $6. I just picked up a 17" ish Compaq monitor for $5 + tax and I suspect that its perfectly fine, no case damage, not even any yellowing. Maybe 3 or 4 years old at most but hey 17" monitor at $5 isn't bad even if it doesn't work (can you say plasma generator?) This isn't the first time I've seen good finds at goodwill. I've picked up about half a dozen Apple monitors for $6 each, a couple Macs for about $10 each. Recently my friend got a 520c for $6, and before that a 6400 well loaded for IIRC $15.
Remeber- the Goodwill is the best super discount computer store known to man.

I can see the diet headlines now:
Its not that you're getting fatter, it's that the kilogram is getting smaller (New York Times- free membership required)

I wish I didn't have that exam in an hour and a half. Sleeping late has felt ver the last few days (expecially since my brothers haven't been able to do it)
13.55.12 - Mark
YES! Summer break is here!!!

This is what the US government gets for not replacing all those broken/breaking down GPS birds. Additional side effects, the EU is smart/dumb enough to not put those irratating resolution limits (ie those somewhere-within-100-meter deals) at least I think they won't.
21.53.18 - Mark
Today was oddly satisifying. Nothing like sleeping late, perfectly healthy, on a Monday, when you know that theres school. Its even better when you realize that both your brothers had to go and you didn't.
20.06.53 - Mark
People can be too intrusive. A little while ago I'm stating a charcoal grill and its really flamming, and my mom in her infinate wisdom parked her car right next to said grill. When I start to grap my keys I notice this truck parking in the middle of the street thinking the driver had stalled I continue with what I was doing. So I go over the the car with my keys and with a leg hanging out start it up and am ready to back up when the driver who I though had stalled was half way out of his truck and yelled over to me "are you alright" I'm thinking to myself that he's missing a few screws but he repeats himself. At that p[oint I yell back and said something like yeah. But still If I'm walking around, uncharred, and not panicing then WTF is he asking me if I'm alright while he's holding up traffic?
As I said people are too intrusive.

I wish NASA would make up one story and stick to it
Tho it is an interesting position- risk one shuttle and a second crew to save the first crew from the dead shuttle.
12.42.08 - Mark
Forget it I'll mess with it later
12.40.13 - Mark
WTF is it not working outside the test blog?!?!?!
12.23.02 - Mark
I should have feedback now via backblog, the question is does it work?
11.39.30 - Mark
We have comments (the problem was that the blog name - G3head's Blog- has an ' in it)
11.27.10 - Mark
Or view them online for free today (hard one huh) Now what did I get...
11.24.08 - Mark
I just realized that my SAT scores are supposed to be sent out today via 1st class mail. I forget is this the part where I panic, try to guess what mail box they will apprear in (2 houses makes it a slight problem), or stay calm and explode with excitement when I get them?
11.12.02 - Mark
First day that I know I don't have school days anymore (except for that stupid exam) and I have to wake up early. :P This wake up on Saturday thing is really getting to be a bad habit. Anyways I already moved a few more computer items to the new house and ATM I'm lookat the the front panel to a 6400/200 wondering how large an LCD I can put on there. Now where did I put that ruler...
*Mark crosses his fingeres hopeing the comment feature will work after it haveing a few hours to itself
12.17.49 - Mark
This is probably late night/almost summer boredom/insanity/general sillyness but I've been using my left hand for simple (stupid stuff) like moving a pencil, using a mouse, writing, ect. and its really weird. Partialy because its horrible, but partialy because it isn't half as bad as I thought it would be. That said I should probably hit myself in the head and go to sleep.
15.53.34 - Mark
Schools out for the summer (except for that dam exam next Tuesday: I still don't see how the Constitution is different in Iowa than any of the other 49 states)
18.30.30 - Mark
I did a good deal of software work on Gibson (the starmax 4000) it was amazingly easy since I burned a software tool disk the other day. K-Scope, Power Windows, SmoothFont, Chrome scheme, the hackers image I link to on my project page (DT image), iTunes 2 and 9.1.
18.27.22 - Mark

At the moment I'm hosting a couple of nice hacks (ones amazingly nice) created by Allison Friedman (naturgirl at Applefritter Forums)
The first is Candy-Apple a simple but well done 7300 paint job. Everything in various shades of red, including the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
The second (and in my opinion much better) is Lightning G3 a B&W G3 built into a custom painted ATX case with window and lights. Thinking about it, it would be the perfect compliment to Chameleon.
21.17.40 - Mark
2 days, two days and one exam and I'm free until fall! (Dam ELP and state making me take it, I could be out Friday Afternoon but noooooo I need to relearn the consitituion)
17.39.44 - Mark
OK, I'm not going to be the religious nutcase thats going to yell at the top of their lungs claiming that Disney is Satin, Hitler, and your favorite Asian conquer all rolled into one. I'm just going to point out that they don't give a flying *&^% about this little planet called earth.
21.34.59 - Mark
Dam, last 24 of the season. Granted this season's plot has been tortured horribly (as TV guide put it- only slightly more plausable than a road runner cartoon) but its an addictive show. Now bad to the TV before the comercials finish up.
17.39.32 - Mark
I always hate the Senior Classes last day, it makes me depressed- won't next year tho'. At least I'll get my memorial day back. (it was taken away by a snow day sometime in January- idiotic school district) No exams Monday (and I think only one on Tuesday)
01.00.22 - Mark
One week, one week until school's out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and that would be 3 weeks too many)
12.04.11 - Mark
One little change and it's fixed. Looks much better now.
12.02.09 - Mark

I need to buy the soundtrack to The Matrix: Reloaded
18.46.40 - Mark
About to see The Matrix: Reloaded again. And I really got the Starmax working now. I'll get some more info on it when I get back
23.37.50 - Mark
When going to make that update I mentioned a second ago I dropped everything into the pictures folder on my idisk rather than the site folder.
Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb.

Just about to put up 5 pages and a couple hand fulls of photos onto the site. And yes they are all of the PowerMatrix.
They will be right here in just a minute.

I miss intellegent photo labs. I've been reduced to useing Walmart photo centers and they SUCK. I so miss having decent developing labs :'( Maybe Photoshop will help me fix the stupid errors that the hicks at wallyworld made

my body isn't forgetting that field trip. My body was aching when I woke up about 3:30 in the afternoon, and I woke up at least once last night since I must have moved the wrong way and my leg pulled a mussle (or something like that, hurt like hell) The trip was worth it tho'
23.46.58 - Mark
Didn't rain, my weird, never constant fear of hights stayed home and I didn't have to worry about glasses flying off my face on those double loops. In other words I had a great time. Got back late tho' (that isn't complaining) but even the bus rides were enjoyable, at least considering what the usual bus ride is like (turn off the air and get that extra 10 MPH ;) ) Even the lines wern't too bad, on at least one roller coaster three of us got to ride it something like 3 times in 10 or 15 minutes.
I also got about a third of the way into Taking the Red Pill: Science, Philosophy and Religion in The Matrix Fiarly good so far tho' the religion drives me nuts (even tho' it is there)
Lastly I'll try and get those photos up tomarrow, I know they've been developed by now.
12.49.31 - Mark
oh, little thing I remembered, I asked a friend back when the DVD was really fresh (2000 ish) about what happened(s) when the Matrix reinvented itself, IE recreated AI? He said it just reset itself, I begged to differ, just something to chew on when you're watching Reloaded.
BTW did I mention that November isn't coming fast enough?
12.46.39 - Mark
Simple recap of reloaded
Over all pretty good, great for a sequal
Less philosophy than the first (at least upon first look, maybe a good time to watch Martix Essays)
Mind blowing FX
Neo needs to speed up time in the Martix so its November already
When's that DVD coming out?
12.34.20 - Mark
November isn't coming fast enough
23.24.18 - Mark
New book today: Taking the Red Pill: Science, Philosophy and Religion in The Matrix. Haven't started reading it- yet- but will soon.
Oh yeah, Field trip for Physics: going to a theme park :) Nothing like a speeding roller coaster to remind you of a Physics lesson. Which one I don't remember but hey Physics is all about moving bodies, and we all know that roller coasters have lots of moving bodies. Bad news is that it might rain :P

Today my high school was sujected to the assembly from hell, one of those academic ones that does a great job of inflating egos with useless awards- that every one seems to get. Anyways I got one of those honestly and one by exceedingly humorus mistake. the honest one was for a computer class ::) (mind blowing isn't it, me getting a computer award) The other one was for Spanish one. OK heres the kicker I'm not in Spanish 1, in fact I'm not in any Spanish class. OTOH my brother is, and the award was ment for him, except he's not in Spanish 1. So I don't get up to get the award because I'm not in Spanish, and he doesn't get up because he's not in Spanish 1 so no one gets up for the awrd and both of us get a ton of questions asked by fellow classmates. Go ahead a few awards and He gets on for princibles of business, and I get my honest one. So about 15 minutes after I get my award they relize that they screwed up since both Welkers are present. Then our idiot principal (after an idiot teacher wispered in her ear) makes a little announcement about the screw up. Long story short huge room filled with upwards of 500 people erupts in laughter and my brother and I accuesed of stealing the others Spanish 1 award. And they wonder why I hate the school...
21.41.41 - Mark
Just about to leave for Matrix:Reloaded, can't wait. I'll try and post after I get back.

Public schools are short sighted and inept, then theres the staff at those schools, who are even more short sighted and inept. Why do I bring this up yet again? Well because I got the results to one of those here's-where-you're-going-to-fit-in college matching tests that was recommended to all students at my high school (forced upon really) by a teacher who is aiming for some higher level of teaching degree, useless of course. Now keep in mind that I have looked at the US News best colleges lists and I know where the best EE/CS schools are. So back to these results, none of them aren't outside- at best- 400 to 500 miles of my high school, and one, only one of them is among the top 20 schools for EE/CS. I pity the suckers who don't realize how cheap that form really is/was.
22.28.34 - Mark
Today the US Treasury released that new $20 I mentioned in a blog entry back in March, well not quite meeting with my prediction but I got a $20 saying that I won't be able to use them in vending machienes until 2006 or so.
23.34.59 - Mark
I figure its time for a semi-intellegent blog entry so here it is:
First I don't se why people insist on content being updated constantly, I mean come on no one makes a living off a single site, and even then its a huge task to come up with great content. I used to check Lowendmac.com daily, back when the content was still updated in mass, daily. Now I might check it once a week. Now the same sort of nagging is hitting Applefritter, again, because those of u who manage content in some extent have other aspects of our lives to deal with. Furthermore a forum is an entirely different beast, you have a constant flow of data and ideas, and its almost never the same from minute to minute. I'll admit some is OK, but theres still that bit on "does any one read this site?" I mean I get almost no email reguarding my ideas on this site, not that I want a lot and not that I don't know that anyone comes here, I know that people do because I have 1,400+ pages served to 600+ visitors (granted many are repeats). I know this is a bit onto the ego side but hey, if you like what I have and don't tell me how do I know to add more of what you like? That said there will be a good sized site update since I have touched the main pages in weeks, blus I notice that even the blog template needs some helping.
23.24.48 - Mark
1 day 22 hours 40 minutes give or take an hour and a handful of minutes until martix Reloaded comes out in the local cinema :D
12.12.34 - Mark
Too tired to blog, much home improvement, will now collapse to repeat
21.43.52 - Mark
Matrix Reloaded comes out in how many days? If you say 4 you're wrong, so very wrong. My local theatre, according to Fandango (online ticket seller) is having a screening at 10:00 on May 14. I know only a matter of 2 hours 1 minute but hey, watching a movie stated for release the next day is just cool (and I'd only be watching about 20 minutes of it on the 15th).
21.37.06 - Mark
Not as tired today, but still mostly drained. There was a lot of work today, mind boggling ammounts of work, and yet there's still more to do.
23.44.24 - Mark
I got my starmax 4000 running. Appearantly the reset switch on the thing was jammed when it was moved, so a simple unconnecting and it works, and I can now relish in its 200MHz 603, 3 PCI slot, 30 GB hard drive, multi-interface goodness.
22.23.41 - Mark
And why can't the US do this you ask? I'll tell you why in four letters:
22.16.16 - Mark
They say that 1000 monkeys on a 1000 typewriters for 1000 years will reproduce Shakespeare's great works.
Well someone got real bored at a university and gave some monkeys some computers. Good news is that they stoped beatying up on the computers, figured out that the keyboard makes the monitor do stuff, they seem to be making progress, and they haven't discovered the internet (if they do we'll never see a monkey write Shakespheare). Bad news is that they haven't produced any words, which leads me to believe that they are already writing M$ code.
12.09.47 - Mark
I love field trip days, I have to go into first period for a few minutes and then I'm out for the rest of the day :D And to think I've got another one in a week or so (threme parks and Physics, was there ever a better match?) Now to get some seleep (not that I can't do that on the bus)

For a mere 5% market share, and not all of them using the store, Apple isn't doing too bad
Based on the numbers from a week ago (270,000 songs and a profit of $100,000) and todays sale numbers (1,000,000) we can figure out that Apple is making somewhere around .36 cents a song (rounded down to nearest cent). Take that profit per download (PPD) times todays sale number and you've got a profit somewhere around $360,000. Now we take 1 Million again and divide by 168 (hours in a week) to get about 6000 downloads an hour, times the PPD and Apples making about 2160 dollars an hour with the store alone, I can't even factor in how much Apple is making from iPod sales. Now for even more fun thats add into the equation that This is only 5% of the market share, and assume that other non windows systems number around 3%. Adding in that 92% and assuming everything scales the same Apple could stand to make, if my numbers are correct, $3,312,000 in a week of Apple Music Store for Windows. OTOH, windows users are for the most part l33t w@R3z d00dZ and most probably won't pay for the music.

I hate truly stupid assignments from idiotic teachers, expecially those from Gym teachers who 1) coudn't see their toes if they tried 2) couldn't hold a real job if their life depended on it 3) hate teaching and 4) should be fired in favor of someone who might be able to do something physical, say take more than 3 steps without breaking a sweat. Now please hold while I do this stupid "Your going to have a baby, because I said so, and it has nothing to do with health, and noone on the face of the earth is going to give a *&^% about you and your on the verge of dying child" On the other hand I'm going to dig up some disease that kills the child after a year since I don't have options of abortion or adoption (the things any smart teenage parent would probably do).

Another long, long day, and I didn't even start until noon. Too much moving, too little stuff being unpacked. So far I've moved all of a mostly filled 20x20x20 storage unit (a good deal more than a 2 car garage) and so far I only know a few of my old computers are. None of the 610s are to be seen, the 7100 is awol as is a IIci a couple IIsis, a couple Pluses, a IIgs, a few printers, a couple moitors, and a number of other systems. My hands are killing me since I moved so many boxes. Plus I still need to continue a paper I wrote a couple weeks ago, at least most of it is hack and pray.
Speaking of hacks, I finaly got the Power Matrix Reassembled, took a little lateral thinking and some crazy glue but I got it. I'll take some final photos when I get a chance (maybe after I work on that paper) and get the film developed. It won't have the Green backlighting yet but better than nothing. Its kinda cool looking at it now because the green grid isn't always viewable, but head on it looks sweet.

Also you know how I was going to get a wireless router 5 months ago, well this move is going to make sure of it (and not by my own doing, its amazing how useful brothers can be when pointed in the right direction) And aside from the obvious negitive (took too frelling long) there are many positives to outweight the wait. First off is more networking gear. Second a mostly empty house to install the back bones of the hard wired network. Third is I should have the materials to distripte it over 3 mediums, Serial Appletalk (68ks), 10/100 baset Ethernet, third 802.11g wireless networking.
Yes you read correctly 802.11g, aka Airport Extreme, aka Wireless-G, aka Xtreme G. 54Mbps of wireless speed. Not that my network will ever achieve that but hey I like the occasional bragging rights. Now if the parents will keep to that...

Just to make note, tommarow, Friday May 2nd will be a good day. Even teachers who don't give a *&^% or a massive pop quiz followed by the brink of neculear war will not ruin tommarow and all its positive forces. For it is that day in 2003 that my family closes for a house in North Carolina that I can stand up in with out fearing dismemberment (I'm afflicted by this irratating little problem called height). Apple will probably release a black iPod at the same time- and I like black and I like iPods and I have $400 to my name (in terms of almost instantly liquid funds).

Whoa, 18 hours, 275,000 tracks, and extra $100,000, and all from a $.99 shop that only supports about 3% of the total computer market! I can't wait to see this hit windows. I get the feeling that Steve Jobs is going to be downloading "We're in the Money!" a few times ;)
